The autumn leaves transform into vibrant hues and a crisp chill fills the air...a reminder that Samhain is around the corner. We honor the end of the harvest and welcomes the darker months. These soft, fragrant treats capture the essence of fall and are perfect for sharing with loved ones during your Samhain or Halloween festivities.

The Charm of Samhain

Samhain, celebrated from October 31st to November 1st, is a significant celebration in various cultures. It marks the transition into winter and is believed that the barrier between the living and the dead becomes thinner during this time. Many celebrate by honoring their ancestors and reflecting on those who have passed. Samhain is celebrated in many different ways but, in our home we celebrate with a nature walk, a big harvest dinner, a bonfire and a cozy movie night (usually Practical Magic). I will also bring a basket of baked goods and treats to our neighbors and friends.

Ingredients You'll Need

Gather the following ingredients to create a delicious batch of pumpkin spice donuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 and ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 3 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp ginger

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp cloves

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup canola oil

  • 2 cups pumpkin puree

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 2 large eggs

  • Optional: cinnamon sugar for finishing

    1/2 cup of melted butter

1 cup of sugar and 4 tablespoons of cinnamon and 1 tsp of cloves

Easy Steps to Make Pumpkin Spice Donuts

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan or use a silicone mold to ensure easy removal later. I linked the one I like to use in my Amazon Storefront under "Baking Tools"

  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large mixing bowl until everything is well blended.

  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, cream together the eggs and oil, then add the pumpkin and vanilla

  4. Combine Mixtures: Sift the dry ingredients over the wet ingredients and stir gently until everything is just combined. Be cautious not to overmix; it’s okay if a few lumps are visible.

  5. Fill the Donut Pan: Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each cavity of the donut pan about halfway. This allows enough room for the donuts to rise.

  6. Bake: Place your donut pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 10-13 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Do not open the oven door too early, as this can cause the donuts to sink.

  7. Cooling and Topping: Let the donuts cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack. If you want to add an irresistible sweetness, brush the donuts with melted butter and toss the warm donuts in cinnamon sugar.

Make the Moment Special

With your pumpkin spice donuts ready, it's time to share the joy. Whether you’re hosting a cozy gathering or enjoying a peaceful evening, these treats fit perfectly into your Samhain celebration. Pair them with hot apple cider or herbal tea.
